The determining factor in disaster management is the ability to plan and have foresight.

Even the peaceful Vhembe is no exception; Vhembe District Municipality will strive to take all steps to ensure that we are properly prepared for disasters at all times and to react fast when disaster strikes, in order to minimize the damage that may be caused.

The General Manager Community Services Mr. Alex Nemakonde, Chief Fire Officer Mr. Tshimangadzo Mphigalale and Heads of Fire Stations with a handful of Vhembe staff members gathered to receive two fire trucks. The trucks were procured for Obed Mashaba fire station in Musina and Makhado fire station in Louis Trichardt, to be used in life saving operations that requires state of the art and modern equipments.

The Fire Brigade Act No 99 of 1987 was promulgated to provide the establishment, maintenance, empowerment, coordination and standardization of fire brigade services. The Provincial Disaster Management Centre has a range of responsibilities to ensure that the stipulations of the Act are implemented and that Municipalities are in compliance and able to meet their legislative mandate.

It is the responsibility of Community Services Department to properly take care of these expensive vehicles and fire fighting equipment, and the Fire fighting unit should ensure that the trucks are serviced and properly maintained to be in proper working condition for emergencies that might arise. They should be used to protect lives and properties.

All road users are encouraged to be alert at all times and arrive alive!
