The Executive Mayor, Cllr Freda Nkondo, commemorated Mandela Day by observing the 67 minutes at Gundo Village, within Thulamela Local Municipality. She dedicated her 67 minutes painting the local Community Hall. She was accompanied by Members of the Mayoral Committee, joined by Khosi Pfareli Ratshilumela Samson Makhuvha, Chairperson of the Gunda Civic Structure Mr. Thinawanga Nephawe, and local community members.
Khosi Pfareli Ratshilumela Samson Makhuvha expressed deep appreciation for the Mayor’s involvement, stating: “We truly thank the Executive Mayor for seeing the need of spending her 67 minutes here, painting our Community Hall. This is a testament to the legacy of Nelson Mandela and a reflection of true leadership.”
“Today is an important day in South Africa and across the world, as we honor the legacy of Nelson Mandela. As a Municipality, we saw the need to make a positive impact in the Gunda community by helping refurbish their Community Hall as part of the 67 minutes campaign. This hall serves as a gathering place for meetings and community events, and giving it a fresh look reflects our commitment to uplifting our people.” Said the Executive Mayor.
Later in the day, the Executive Mayor joined Limpopo Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba in Begwa Village to monitor the progress of a house being built for the Ndobvangomu Netshingolwe family.
Dr Phophi Ramathuba delivered a heartfelt message encouraging the Netshingolwe children to focus on their education and pursue their dreams with determination. She reminded them that education is the foundation of success and a powerful tool to change their lives and uplift their community. “Stay focused on your studies and never let your background determine your future,” she said. In a touching moment, Dr Ramathuba made a personal promise: “I want to see each of you graduate one day. When that day comes, invite me, I will come back and celebrate with you.”
